NKOTB
Unfortunately for the fashionista in me (she’s there, I swear, but just doesn’t get out to play much), the Dolce & Gabbana sale was quite disappointing. The stuff they had out was either horribly out-of-season, damaged, or just plain tacky (which is why they needed a sale to get rid of it). We got there just before 1 pm to find a rather long line. It wasn’t quite the lineup I had imagined, but came close. Thankfully, it moved very quickly as people scrambled to get inside and get their shop on.

SNL Royalty
The day began with Candace and I heading out for a walk around the neighbourhood. We were heading through a construction zone and when a man in a hardhat called out to us, “Whoa! I didn’t know the Miss America Pageant is in town!” New York City construction workers are notorious for hassling women, so where I would normally be indignant at being cat-called, it felt more like a travel experience than street harassment. I’m sure the women of NYC feel differently about it, though!

Go Big Apple or Stay Home
A few months ago, my friend Candace and I found out that New Kids on the Block was reuniting and doing a North American tour. Our schedules didn’t work out for the Calgary dates, so we talked about other options, finally deciding, if we’re going to do this, let’s go big. Big as in Big Apple.

Wildflowers & Wind
Nicole and I made our way back from Montana today. The ride felt so, so long because it was ridiculously hot on the highway. Off in the distance, it looked like there were rain clouds on their way to ease our suffering, but they never materialized. They were just a taunting mirage. We ended up being a little rushed after getting stuck in some construction before leaving Montana. We were sitting there for quite awhile, but it didn’t look like any road work was actually being done. Just a big guy with a stop sign keeping us from being on our way.

In Bear Country
Yesterday morning, we set out on the remainder of our journey to Montana. We had some fun stopping along the way to take pictures of the wind turbines in Magrath, which are just much more massive up close than I thought they would be. After crossing the border, it wasn’t much longer until we reached Glacier Lake. We had to brave a winding road on a cliff’s edge to get there. The scary part was definitely the lack of guard rails, though, I honestly don’t know what they would do to stop you if you started to tip off the side. It’s a visual pacifier, though!

Land of Air-Shows and Orange Water
Nicole and I left Calgary earlier today for a few days in Montana. We’re taking a short vacation to see some sights, do some hikes, and take lots of photos. We made it to Lethbridge tonight, but because of an air show (that neither of us knew about until today), we had a little trouble finding a place to sleep for the night. After being told there was no vacancy at several hotels and motels, we stumbled upon our last resort and only option: El Rancho Motor Inn.

Needing an Official Archaeologist Badge
Just after posting my last entry, I made my way back to the hotel and took a nice long nap. Like, a great nap. I was so sleepy and wonderfully drowsy. However, two hours into my nice, long, restful nap I heard a loud knocking at the door. Once I had realized that the sound I was hearing truly was knocking and not some fabrication of one of my dreams, I stumbled – very much stumbled – to the door and opened.

Luggage Freedom and Rickety Transport
I would have thought not having luggage for a whole trip would have really gotten me down. At first, that’s exactly how it felt. The idea of going days on end with only the clothes on your back and what you can pick up along the way… I’m so used to having fresh clothes to put on every day. But for some reason, I’m taking this no-luggage thing as a challenge and am actually finding it kind of fun. It’s been freeing not to have to worry about misplacing something or carrying a heavy bag from one town to the next. It’s just me, my clothes, and my (admittedly huge)…

Don’t Fly United Airlines
In the wee hours of the morning, I woke up in a great mood and surprisingly free of my normal airplane anxiety. I figure this was because I was just so excited to get away from the chill of Calgary in winter and enjoy some much needed rest in the sunshine. This only lasted from my Calgary-Denver flight. I have never been more sick in my life than I was on the flight from Denver to Cancun. It’s always so difficult to be in a confined space and having to throw up every 30 minutes. I kid you not, it was 30 minutes on the dot each time. I couldn’t…

Panic is Where the Poster is Not
Had you spoken to me last night at approximately midnight, I would have told you that I was a complete and utter failure as a student. It took approximately ten hours for me to realize this, but I accidently left my poster behind in the cab. My one reason for being in San Jose, for spending all this money, time, and effort to be here, gone with the cabbie that dropped me off.
