April 2026 Recap

April gets a bad rap, but it’s one of the best months of the year. After spending months in the pit of despair (also known as “winter”), the crocuses and the birds team up to bring back colour and joy to the world. They’re doing a lot of heavy lifting, people.

If you’re in Calgary and are looking for something to do, I would always suggest checking out the Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs. This is a volunteer lead intitiative to transform a corner of Calgary’s northwest quadrant into a lush gardenscape. If you flip through my photos below, you’ll see a small purple-blue flower known as Anemone hepatica, captured at the BGSS. They have an absolutely gorgeous alpine garden set into a rocky mound and that’s where you’ll see some of the earliest blooms of the year.
