Jillian Town
As of today, the dig is over. You wouldn’t know it because of my lack of blog posts – and I’m sure more than a few of you thought I was dead – but I really did spend my time in a faraway land digging for ancient treasure. The dig was good and we certainly got a lot of work done. Unfortunately for me, I was the most experienced archaeologist in my field (except for my field supervisor) and was given a whooooolllllllllllllle bunch ‘o squares to look after.

What You Wish For
Alright, so the old saying may go, “Be careful what you wish for because it may come true,’ and but right now, I’m seeing it as, “Wish for what you want because it may come true.” What did I wish for?

Muqabalayn
Taxi Driver: Where you want to go? Me: al-Muqabalayn, please. Taxi Driver: al-Muqabalayn?? Me: Yes, please. Taxi Driver: Why would you want to go there??? Our neighborhood has the best of reputations.

Digging
The bell went off to get the day started at 4:15 am, but I was already awake. There are some who share our rooms who have set alarms to wake themselves up even earlier so they can, “get ready.” Makeup and showers are pretty futile pursuits, which they’ll learn pretty quickly. Any extra few minutes you can get of sleep are precious.

Arriving in Jordan
For someone who considers herself at least somewhat of a writer, I certainly haven’t written anything yet – and it’s been what, five days since I left Calgary? I think a lot of this trip will be spent comparing it to when I last came here in 2006, so get yourselves ready for some reminiscing and dream sequences.

Meeting Leonard Nimoy and Malcolm McDowell
My first comic con! It was so wonderful, full of nerdy delights and geeky wonders. There were obscure toys, valuable first-edition comics, and… LEONARD NIMOY! I only decided last night that I wanted to go. I had been fighting it, thinking that it would be too expensive (which is was) and that I would end up going with one of my non-geeky friends. Instead, I went with my brother, sister, and brother-in-law, and as my mom has said before, “I raised a bunch of nerds.” She means it with all the love in the world… I think.

The Death of a Hard Drive
Blog stats are a hell of an addition and my favourite part of them is the bit that tells you what people Googled to find your blog. One of the recent search terms: “The way crazy people view the world.” And I will tell you that I have a sort of pride over that. But here is a story that many of you will think me crazy for. “Rational, logical Jillian is insane,” you’ll say…

Winter in Kananaskis
I’m not one for winter. I’m one for whining and moaning about how much I want winter to go away. However, I will admit that it’s rather pretty, especially in the mountains. So, yesterday afternoon, Steve and I made our way out to Kananaskis for some old-fashioned photo-adventuring.

Exquisite.
I’m currently diving through the archives of several external hard drives. There was one post I came across that was just a simple video. I hadn’t written anything, just posted a video from when I was in Jordan in 2006, taken from inside my mosquito net. When I found this, I knew I couldn’t let it be relegated to archives, so it’s getting embedded in this brand-new post.

The Diva and the Novice
My dogs are insane. … INSANELY CUTE that is. It’s my two dogs: Saxon (background) and Mouse (foreground). Mouse, being half Husky, was gifted with an exceptional voice that will match any pitch delivered to her. Saxon’s singing voice has been and always will be described as, “jarring.” Oh, but he’s so sweet because he tries. Feel free to laugh at the video as much as you like, he’ll just think you’re laughing with him.
