Meeting Leonard Nimoy and Malcolm McDowell

My first comic con!

It was so wonderful, full of nerdy delights and geeky wonders. There were obscure toys, valuable first-edition comics, and… LEONARD NIMOY!

I only decided last night that I wanted to go. I had been fighting it, thinking that it would be too expensive (which is was) and that I would end up going with one of my non-geeky friends. Instead, I went with my brother, sister, and brother-in-law, and as my mom has said before, “I raised a bunch of nerds.” She means it with all the love in the world… I think.

Anyhow, I was so excited last night that I had trouble sleeping. The thought of meeting Leonard Nimoy was something my inner Trekkie Star Trek enthusiast couldn’t really get over. SPOCK! I’m going to meet SPOCK!!!!!

Plus, I got to stalk Brent Spiner a little. I was snapping photos of him while I was in line for Leonard Nimoy and that’s when Malcolm McDowell ran into me. When my face is plastered behind my camera, I have a tendency to lose my sense of the world around me. All I knew was someone had put their hand on my back and politely said, “Excuse me” while moving through the line. According to my sister, that person was Malcolm McDowell. As my brother said, “I’m never washing this sister again.” HA!

When it came my turn to get Spock’s autograph, that inner Star Trek enthusiast I admitted to having was squeeing all over the place. I spoke to him for all of a second, since there were so many people waiting to see him that I didn’t really get a chance to do more than thank him for the photo, but I did it with a huge smile of my face, which he returned and said, “You’re very welcome!”

YEAH. That’s right. Leonard Nimoy talked to me.

I think that’s the best time I’ve ever had with my siblings. Sure, there were Christmases and birthdays, but geeking out? Priceless.
