Goodbye Turkey!

Turkey was so much fun from start to finish. After such a long and tiring dig season, it was really necessary to relax and explore and just have a normal-person vacation.

I realize I haven’t updated the blog as much as I normally would while travelling. It was such a time-consuming dig season and I had to make a choice between submitting archaeological work I could be proud of and finding time to update my travelogue. Once I got to Turkey, I just wanted to fill my days with relaxation and adventure. Sitting down to write blog posts was extra work I wasn’t quite ready to take on.

For those of you who have been sending me messages asking what happened next, here’s a point-form rundown of the Turkish highlights:

– Swimming the Mediterranean and sleeping under more stars than I’ve ever seen before in my life.

– Climbing up inside a huge gorge with frigid water running through it. Falling on my ass on the way back down and having a good laugh about it.

– Tubing down the river of that gorge and having a mud fight on the bank about halfway down. So much mud in my ear, but so fun.

– Wandering through a small village eating peaches. Amazing, perfect, hit-the-spot peaches.

– Making everyone take a cheesy group shot inside the Trojan Horse at Troy.

– Having a hafla on our last day together, dancing our hearts out, and laughing at myself for going a little out-of-character and loving every minute of it.

I’m happy to be home. As always, I missed my friends, my family, and especially my goofy dogs. Honestly, though, the novelty of having a working washing machine, kitchen, shower, and bed has already worn off a little.
