Go Big Apple or Stay Home

A few months ago, my friend Candace and I found out that New Kids on the Block was reuniting and doing a North American tour. Our schedules didn’t work out for the Calgary dates, so we talked about other options, finally deciding, if we’re going to do this, let’s go big.

Big as in Big Apple.

With VIP tickets in hand, we booked our flights to NYC and have eagerly awaited today. Aside from seeing the show, we’re staying for a few extra days to get in some sigh-seeing and general adventures.

This morning, Candace came out with her luggage and we both stared in disbelief at each other. She was holding four bags and I had my small duffel and camera bag. We both thought the other was crazy. I suppose I learned to pack light after my trip to Mexico. It was so freeing to learn to leave some things at home, but I have no doubt there’s something I forgot and she’s going to get an, “I told you so!” in or two.

Today has been about settling in and eating cantaloupe that tastes like candy. Tomorrow, we’re heading for the Empire State Building and maybe a museum or two. I would visit every single museum in this city, but I’m an archaeologist and Candace isn’t, so I have to be fair!

The day after tomorrow, I’m going to head up to Buffalo to visit Jenn, a friend I met while working in Nicaragua. I’m really excited to see her! While I’m away, Candace is going to camp out for SNL tickets and we’re both hoping she gets to see a Tina Fey as Sarah Palin skit.
